Quickstart

This quickstart is a brief introduction to our data and APIs. Don’t worry if you’ve never used an API before. With some copy and paste we’ll get you up and running quickly.

Creating an Account

In order to access our data, you will need an API key. You can get one by creating a free account at https://app.bigpicture.io/signup.

Note: this is your secret API key, so please keep it private, as we charge you credits based on usage associated with it.

Making a Request

Once you have your API key, you can look up a company profile using the Company API.

Via Postman

If you use Postman, you can easily make a request with the BigPicture Collection.

Run in Postman

Via cURL

Here’s a cURL command that you can copy and paste into your terminal:

Before Running the Command:

Before Running the Command:

Replace XXXX with your API key and hit enter to run the command.

API_KEY=XXXX
curl "https://company.bigpicture.io/v1/companies/find/stream?domain=uber.com" \
-H "Authorization: ${API_KEY}"

This is what happens when you run this command:

  1. You send an API request through cURL for the profile associated with the following domain: uber.com.
  2. The Company API finds the matching profile record in our database, or if it doesn't exist yet, it triggers a live search.
  3. The API returns a JSON-formatted profile record in response with a 200 status, which indicates that a record was successfully found.

The result of running the above command should be the following profile record:

"description": "Uber Technologies, Inc. develops and operates proprietary technology applications in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific. It connects consumers with independent providers of ride services for ridesharing services; and connects riders and other consumers with restaurants, grocers, and other stores with delivery service providers for meal preparation, grocery, and other delivery services. The company operates through three segments: Mobility, Delivery, and Freight. The Mobility segment provides products that connect consumers with mobility drivers who provide rides in a range of vehicles, such as cars, auto rickshaws, motorbikes, minibuses, or taxis. It also offers financial partnerships, transit, and vehicle solutions offerings. The Delivery segment allows consumers to search for and discover local restaurants, order a meal, and either pick-up at the restaurant or have the meal delivered; and offers grocery, alcohol, and convenience store delivery, as well as select other goods. The Freight segment connects carriers with shippers on the company's platform and enable carriers upfront, transparent pricing, and the ability to book a shipment, as well as transportation management and other logistics services offerings. The company was formerly known as Ubercab, Inc. and changed its name to Uber Technologies, Inc. in February 2011. Uber Technologies, Inc. was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.",
